Did you know as a referee, you can’t call a ball in/out unless asked by one of the participants? This is just one of the many things you need to know to be an effective official at any sanctioned USAPA tournament.
In preparation for the NJ Senior Olympics, Kim Smith has arranged to have a free training session on how to keep score and referee a pickleball match. If you are participating in this tournament (or many others), it’s required that you act as score keepers/referees at some time during the tournament. If you’re going to watch, why not have a courtside seat?
The NJ Senior Olympics organizers will have officials on hand to teach and answer questions about scorekeeping and being a referee for a pickleball match.
Whether it be to get more comfortable at tournaments or just feel more confident when playing with your friends, sign-up to come to the Community YMCA at 9 am on August 12th to learn the basics of being an official for pickleball matches. We’ll begin with an hour of classroom work, followed by officiating real games.
