Say Hi to Nate. Nate will blow in and blow out quickly make it challenging to play pickleball outdoors today, but it should pull out quickly should be gone tonight. (hopefully leaving some drier weather).
October Schedule
The fort has posted their October Schedule. As mentioned last week, due to rentals, pickleball programs and other activities, the gym is not available as much this month and there are significantly fewer times to play then there was last month.
I want to reassure people that this isn’t because people have been playing outside. Jim Butler (who runs the pickleball program for the Monmouth County Parks System) understands that indoor pickleball will decline during nice weather and that people will return as it gets colder. Jim is already working hard on November’s schedule to get more time for pickleball.
Thanks Jim!

Party Time
Today is the last day to sign-up for the Fall Pickleball party at Russell & Bette’s on October, 11. See the post for more information: Fall Pickleball Party in Rumson.
Pickleball Madness
There’s still time to sign up for Pickleball Madness at Colts Neck Racquet Club. For those in central/western Monmouth County, it’s a great opportunity to check out some sweet facilities, meet new people and help support the club as they ramp up their pickleball program. There are programs for beginners and intermediates, as well as the opportunity for beginner instruction. Kathleen and I hope to see you there. Check out the post: Pickleball madness has arrived at Colts Neck Racquet Club
Tip of the week
We’re going to take a break from skills and focus on equipment. Today’s tip is about footwear. It’s one of the most important pieces of equipment and wearing the proper footwear can help prevent injuries on the court.
Last Week’s Results
I found last week’s results to be the most interesting yet. It would seem that people spend very little time with dedicated practice and instead think that they will improve by playing games or warming up before games. For those that weren’t following the site back in the early days, Chris Riportella wrote a post about the importance of purposeful practice. I highly encourage people to read that post.
This Week’s Poll
This week’s poll needs some qualification. To be clear, this isn’t a clinic, this is a time where you would show up and only practice. There are no instructors, only a dedicated time/place where you could find others that also want to practice.
Tournament News
This weekend is the Rossmore Fall Classic. Even if you aren’t playing, it’s a great opportunity to check out the tournament scene and see local players competing for gold in nearby Monroe, NJ.
