Another happy Monday. Aside from some rain on Tuesday, it looks like another fantastic week to play outdoors.

10-day forecast

Yesterday, I was introduced to a new pickleball venue. Kim Smith has worked with the team at Colts Neck Racket Club to start to offer pickleball to both members and non-members. The team there is offering some great programs and will be a lot more convenient for people that are in the central/western part of the county. I will be posting more information on the venue and programs available later this week.

Site news

You may have noticed that there are posts on the website that you didn’t get e-mailed about. This is not by accident. When I created this website, the intent was to have people come and interact, comment make this a community website. My intention was and is never to make this an e-mail newsletter.

I am sorting through the options of keeping people updated, but be sure to visit the site to see the latest news and posts. You can go right to the news section by visiting this link: http://ybi.sxl.mybluehost.me/blog/

I expect that there will be 3-4 new pieces of content per week. I am experimenting with putting links to last week’s posts in the bottom of the TWIP newsletter. I welcome feedback on how you’d prefer to receive this information.

Pickleball Chatter

With the change of seasons upon us, there are a number of things that are “in the works” that can’t really be classified as news. I want everyone to have visibility into the things that are happening but also want to ensure that everyone understands that they are far from a slam-dunk. Look for Pickleball Chatter to make its debut in the coming weeks.

Tip of the week

This week’s tip is about serving. There are 3 basic elements that are required for a serve to be legal and many people are in that gray area (including me). Watch this video to understand the rules of serving and see what is considered legal, illegal and what you should watch for in your own and others’ serves.

This week’s poll

The data collected from these polls will be shared with the various pickleball venues, so I encourage everyone to participate. All polling data is anonymous and no personal information is collected or shared. As you can no doubt guess, the more participation we have, the more influence the data will have in making decisions on local play.

Last Week’s Results

The poll from last week was very interesting and helps to clarify some of the challenges when a large group of people shows up to play together.

Tournament News

There have been a number of local tournaments added last week. Of special note is the Franklin Twp tournament which includes a “Beginners” bracket. If you’re a beginner and looking for a place to dip your toe in the tournament waters, this would be a great place to do it.

Registration Deadlines

  • Franklin Twp – Parks & Recreation Pickleball Tournament – 10/27/17

Rossmore’s tournament sells out very quickly so there is no registration deadline. Be sure to get registered if you want to play.  – Registration is CLOSED
