Just 21 shopping days until Christmas. Have you put all of your new pickleball equipment on your list? Pickleball wise, we’re now more or less into winter.

You may notice that the calendar is less busy than in the summer. If you are responsible for a venue and you don’t see your events listed, please contact me and let me know your on-going schedule. I want to ensure that everyone knows all the options available. Pickleball players are known to travel to new locations to meet and play with new groups even if it means that they have to travel a bit to do it. We’ve had players from Middlesex and Somerset counties, as well as Staten Island, come to open play and expect this to increase as our programs expand.

December Schedules in effect

Just a reminder that we’re now in December and that some of the venue’s schedules have changed. For example, tonight at Fort Monmouth, the pickleball session starts at 5:30 pm instead of 6:30 pm as it did in November. As always, refer to the calendar for the latest.

New Site Layout

Many of you probably only get the weekly TWIP update and only come to the website to read the weekly post. I recently have redesigned the site to make it more mobile friendly and interesting to browse.  What may or may not surprise you is that 60% of the visitors to Monmouth Area Pickleball do it on a mobile device (phone or tablet). This redesign will enable me to add more functionality and improve the overall user experience for the site so that people can find things faster and be alerted about items of interest without clogging up inboxes. The immediate need was to improve the calendar experience on phones. Does the calendar look better now on your phone? Let me know.

As always, your feedback is important. If you would like to see something specific that I’m missing from the site, or something isn’t working quite right, please let me know. contact

Pick-up games

While we aren’t even officially into Winter yet, Kim Smith and I have already started to look forward to Spring. Specifically, we expect that there will be more choices for games than ever before. One of the things that have been suggested is Meetup which allows games to be scheduled and people to sign-up if they’re going. Unfortunately, there’s a cost associated with this, so not sure if that’s something we’ll do or not. I would still prefer to have an integrated solution so that there aren’t different places to go. We’ll continue to explore the possibilities and keep everyone updated with any progress on the subject.

Colts Neck Holiday Tournament

The deadline has passed and there are over 80 people signed up to play in the Colts Neck 1st Anual Holiday Tournament set for this weekend (Dec 9 &10). I encourage you to come out and support the tournament and watch some really exciting pickleball. Colts Neck has a nice lounge that gives you a bird’s eye view of all the action. There will be 10 courts set up and active so there will be lots of pickleball.

Tip of the Week

Since it’s getting colder and options for practice are more limited, I wanted to share this post by Joe Baker.

Last Week’s Poll

Last week’s poll was about overall fitness. The results are not surprising. Most people feel like they are in better shape because of pickleball.

Thanks, Barbara, Jim Butler provided me the schedule last week. I’m guessing that there were some last minute changes. I’m going to call him and see how we can improve the coordination.
