Happy Labor Day! Welcome to September. I hope everyone is enjoying the cool weather. It looks like we’ll have a nice couple of days before some mid-week rain will force us indoors. Right now, it looks as though the weather for the upcoming NJ Senior Olympics is going to be perfect.

10-day forecast

Just a reminder that the Fort Monmouth Recreation Center has special extended hours today. There are 2 – 2 1/2 hour sessions for today (9/4).

For the beginners that are looking to play with other beginners, the fort has many beginners sessions designed to help you build confidence and skills.

The fort has also changed some of it’s session times, so please check the calendar before heading off.

YMCA leagues start this week

There is still time to sign up for the leagues at the Community YMCA. Leagues start tomorrow and run every Tuesday/Thursday. There are both morning and evening leagues. See the post Community YMCA – League Information for more information.

Senior Olympics

It’s finally here! Please make sure to head up to Woodbridge either Friday or Saturday to support the local teams that have signed up for the NJ Senior Olympics. The weather looks as though temperatures will be in the low 70’s with sunny skies. For those who are participating in the event, Good Luck!

Friday – Men’s & Women’s doubles and Singles

Saturday – Mixed Doublts (and Singles if necessary)

Both sessions start at 8:30 am. Singles start at 2 pm both days

Tip of the week

This week’s tip is about serving. You don’t have to have a blazing or spinning serve to win. One of the most effective techniques at winning is by getting your serves deep. Check out this video about the lob serve and how to use it effectively to keep the opposing team back and on their heels.

While the video is a bit long, the guy is fun to watch and listen to and loaded with valuable tidbits.

This week’s poll

Coming Soon
Total Votes : 7

Last week’s results

The results of last weeks poll were pretty evenly split. Of course this would assume that it’s not 100 degrees or raining.

Now that summer is over, we’re going to see a lot more tournaments in and around the area. The next big tournament is the Atlantic Regional tournament, October 26 – 29 in Hartford, CT.

If you get any information on local tournents that aren’t on the website, please send it my way so that I can let everyone know.
